Third Vmag for the Grand Finale at Oran Park - One win too late for Tander
Garth Tander won the final round of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series at Oran Park yesterday, but it made no difference to the outcome of the Series. He remained in third spot and Jamie Whincup took away his crown.
Tander dominated Sunday with a first and second place, Rick Kelly fronting up for his second race win of the season and his first official podium after a very tough year. Craig Lowndes claimed second for the round after TeamVodafone missed the window with his set-up in the morning race and a series of slow starts for the weekend put him behind the eight ball. Second Vmag for the Grand Finale at Oran Park - Whincup takes the crown
Jamie Whincup sealed his first V8 Supercar Championship yesterday with another dominant win. Whincup took the lead off the start and fought hard with pole winner Garth Tander early, but was gifted an easy lead when Tander was penalised for a false start.
Following Whincup home was again teammate Craig Lowndes, with Russell Ingall a solid third. Mark Skaife's chances of a dream final round disappeared during his CPS when he was hit by Mark Winterbottom, the crash broke the steering on the HRT car and he eventually retired from the race. TeamVodafone1-5th finishes 2nd for the day at Brendale
With the final race of the year run at England Park Raceway (Brendale) it proved an interesting day for the team as the track conditions were changing constantly, plus with a new car that the team was still learning about we had our work cut out for us.
Through the day we had a few challenges presented to us with the car not getting the drive out of the corners like we would have prefered, but with each run we made some adjustments and the car improved. As the car is still very new for us, we are still very happy with its progress and believe we will see much improved results for Car 888 next year.
Trent started the final with the TeamVodafone1-5th FG in tenth place on the grid but soon moved to 5th after a few cars came together at BP corner. Taking advantage of this Trent pressed on to eventually move up to 2nd place with 2 minutes to go in the 1/2hr final. Andrew Herranz in the second of FJ Tiling cars drove a fantastic race taking the eventual win and lead from his father Harry about half way through the race, Harry's FJ Tiling racer lost a wheel while on the back straight. Harry eventually returned to the track after about 8 minutes in the pits, fitting a new wheel to the FJ Tiling racer, Harry finished 6th. Gunther Schoch drove an uneventful race, finishing 3rd for the day.

DAY FOUR - AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS - ADELAIDE
Today was the final day for the National Championships in South Australia. First off the list was the B Final then saw the A Final start after that, with the TeamVoadafone1-5th FG racing. Unfortunately, we could not capitalize on the performances that we had in the heats. The TeamVodafone1-5th FG succumbed to a drive problem and had to retire at about the 10 minute mark. Good news though for the FG Team, as Chris from South Australia took out a very well driven 2nd place in the Final. So, congratulations to the FG brand and Chris for this performance. Congratulation to Jeff Hamon from Trackside RC driving a great race to take out the 2008 1-5th Scale Australian Championship.
So, it's back to the drawing board for the TeamVodafone1-5th for the next event. The car is doing very well with a strong motor and great chassis, but just few little issues and a small learning curve for a car that is 3 weeks since new. Once nutted out, I'm sure the well presented car will be even better.
This year sees Trent accepting the nomination for Large Scale Secretary for 2009. So, well done on the appointment Trent.
Well, this concludes my blog for this event. There were many great moments and much viewing down at SA. It was really great to see the Trucks running. The wonderful thing about them is that all competitors are on an even playing field. The only difference is how you set up the truck and also, how you drive it. Unlike the Cars, this class is a relatively cheap. So for those of you who are thinking about getting into the sport, this might be the way to go. South Australia already runs these events 2 a month. Being a relative new addition to the sport, hopefully Queensland will soon take the lead from South Australia.
If you are ever down the track and see the TeamVodafone1-5th FG Car or Trucks, make sure you come into the pits and say G'day. We are more than happy to have a chat!
Bye for now
Tina

DAY THREE - NATIONAL TITLES - ADELAIDE
The day started pretty similar to yesterday, but what a difference a day can make. The TeamVodafone1-5th FG Truck took out the prestigious "Concourse" in the truck category (long nose), with the cab overcoming a close second. A lot of hard work goes into what I call the decorations, so great effort Trent.
The Trucks had their final today (20 minutes). With Trent placed 2nd on the grid and Eden starting in 8th. The trucks started with a bang, with a little bit of biff and barge. Trent took a corner a little too hard and rolled the TeamVodafone1-5th FG truck after the minute mark, at the time of the roll over Trent was in second place closely following Colin Grenenger who was in first place. But thanks to the Marshalls, was soon on his way again in 3rd place. He soon took back 2nd and was slowly catching 1st. With 5 minutes to go, he caught Colin and with a little bit of a mistake, took 1st place. Eden doing a wonderful job made his way to 4th and with every lap was etching closer to 3rd. As the laps counted on and the 2nd place truck had a collision with a back runner, made the gap for Trent to come home and take out the 1st Truck National Title with a very superb effort Eden (a new comer to 1/5 scale) to come 4th. Cheers and congratulations to the guys and TeamVodafone1-5th FG Trucks. A wonderful effort for this very new venture for the crew.
Day 2 for the 1-5th TeamVodafone1-5th FG car, saw Trent drive his way to the A Semi-final. A high place tomorrow in this race, will see the TeamVodafone1-5th FG car start in the 1/2 hour main final.
Bye for now

DAY TWO - NATIONAL TITLES - ADELAIDE
Today we woke to a cloudy day with not so nice looking clouds. With rain on the cards and a breeze that was, well a bit of a gail, it was COLD!! 17 degrees to be precise. With the Concourse judged and won (but we don't find out till Sunday), today was the start of the heats. With four heats for the cars and 1 truck round, there was plenty for people to see. The first heat saw Trent looking very nice with the TeamVodafone1-5ht FG car blazing around the track with a best time of 28 laps in 10.02. Then out came the trucks for a bit of a play. This was the first time Trent had the truck out. With a few little slides and spins, he settled in. Eden (still beaming) was going around the track nicely. Second heat saw another car make contact with the TeamVodafone1-5th FG car, early in the run, causing Trent to lose valuable time. So the decision was to bring the car in to make some changes for the next run. After Heat 4, out came the trucks again. But this time both TeamVodafone1-5th FG Trucks came back with a bit of body damage and for a few minor repairs.
But with that being said, things are looking good. Hopefully the rain will go away and things will start to heat up, both on and off the track!
Bye for now

DAY ONE - NATIONAL TITLES - ADELAIDE
Well, after a bit of a hold up on the getting to Adelaide, we finally made it! Let's just say leaving something in my possession, might not be such a good idea next time! We finally arrived at the track at about 3pm on Thursday. A quick engine change with a new Complete Horsepower Power Plant on the TeamVodafone1-5th FG car and the boys hit the track to perform the engine run in. With all things, a bit of trial and error, but the TeamVodafone1-5th FG car is coming along very well. Trent is very impressed at the progress made. And looking at the TeamVodafone FG going around. It's looking very smooth and sounding very sweet.
Yesterday also gave us a look at Eden's driving the Big Rig. It looked liked if you were in his way on the track, you wouldn't be there for too much longer. Eden was driving like there was no tomorrow. Not too bad for his first time competing in this scale. He had the truck on 2 wheels a few times as well, maybe he thought he was still driving 1-5th scale bikes.
Bye for now

Friday 24 October 2008
There has been much happening at TeamVodafone1-5th since the Queensland Championships, some good some sad.
Firstly we do apologise for the delay with updating the website as the team has been extremely busy with the changes happening within the team.
Let me start with the sad. It is with much regret that we announce that Jason, driver of car 88 has decided to leave the team to pursue a drive with a new team. Jason was an integral part of our team and we all wish him well in his new pursuit. He will be missed.
However as with everything along with the bad comes some good. The team is very happy to announce that we are making a shift from our RS5 06' 'C' chassis to the new FG EVO 08' chassis. At the same time our great friends at Complete Horsepower will be building and supplying our race engines. This will be very exciting time for the team as we look forward to working with the great people at FG Australia and Complete Horsepower in developing the car. Making the change now will allow the team to move forward toward the World Championships in South Africa next year.
In the mean time the team is busy getting the new car sorted for it first big outing in Adelaide with Trent and Eddy burning the midnight oil to ensure that this is one of the cars at the pointy end of the field. To date the boys seem very happy with the new FG Chassis and can't wait to see it in competition. Mal's previous experience with FG when he was head mechanic for Michael Stavropoulos will no doubt help us hit the road running.
In other news as part of our never ending search to keep this sport interesting we have also decided to introduce some new vehicles to our stable and will be building two FG racing trucks based on the FG Sportsline range. The class that the trucks will be raced in controlled to keep costs low and the fun and excitement to a maximum. When the team was in Adelaide earlier this year Trent was given an opportunity to drive one of the FG race trucks owned by George Paradiso from (Complete Horsepower) and after his brief drive he was quite excited to get into this category. Both of these trucks will debut in Adelaide as well. The second truck will be driven by Eden "Eddy" Watson. This is a new venture for Eddy as his background in RC motorsport is with 4 wheel drive 1/10th scale cars and 1/5th scale motorbikes. Since the arrival of both trucks Eddy has been hard at it behind the controller putting in laps adapting to the 1/5th scale 2 wheel rear drive FG race truck. In 2009 TeamVodafone1-5th will bring onboard a new sponsorship partner for both race trucks. We are in the process of finalising these arrangements and will make the announcement regarding our new sponsor in the near future. All of us at TeamVodafone1-5th would like to thank Mr Simon Hyslop for putting this deal together for the team. It is hoped that other clubs around Australia will follow the Adelaide clubs lead and introduce this class and make it a truly National Category.
A final piece of good news, TeamVodafone1-5th is very pleased to announce a new sponsorship partner in AUTOFOCUS who represent brands like Oakey's Racing Division, Leatt Brace helmets and Chicane Racewear we look forward to showing off their products at a track near you soon.
As a sneak preview we have added some new pictures of our FG race car and FG race trucks to our Gallery Pages - New FG Chassis - Qld Championships - FG Race Trucks.
Stay tuned for more updates during the Adelaide event

Well that is it for the moment, we hope to see many of our good friends in Adelaide.
